Zahra is a junior at UCSD studying Communication with a minor in Film Studies. Born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, Zahra moved to the U.S. to pursue her undergraduate degree. Her passion for criminal justice system reformation developed through her longstanding advocacy of social justice and her studies centering on racial and socioeconomic inequalities. Aside from volunteering for campus organizations focused on environmental justice, she is also a volunteer intern at a non-profit organization called CleanEarth4Kids, where she develops op-eds concerning climate action. The knowledge and experience she gained from her previous and current volunteer work have led her to a path in non-profit, and in joining the filmmaking team at WITNESS, she hopes to create visual content that will amplify the voices of formerly incarcerated individuals. When she’s not busy running around campus to catch her lectures, she enjoys watching films and TV shows, thrifting, and kicking back to watch the latest New Jersey Devils game.
