Tara McTague is a sophomore at Barnard College double majoring in English and American Studies. From Madison, NJ, she has interned at the League of Women Voters to help promote their book as part of the centennial celebration of women’s suffrage. On campus, Tara is a peer-tutor for Spanish and a member of the Barnard Bookworms. Raised a Quaker, she has grown up with an emphasis on social justice. Tara is drawn to the ways that WITNESS places the voices of formerly incarcerated women and LGBTQ+ people at the center of the movement for alternatives to mass incarceration; she is dedicated to its commitment to changing the narratives about formerly incarcerated people from invisibility to empowerment.
