I am from La Puente California, Los Angeles County area and I am a recent UC Berkeley graduate. I majored in sociology in hopes of becoming a criminal and immigration attorney. After witnessing first hand how the criminal justice system affected my family it solely fueled my desire to join the ranks such as the ACLU, and CATO and make a difference by representing individuals as well as, where possible, reform the legal system.
During my time at UC Berkeley, I joined a club on campus called Hermanas Unidas which advocates for Latinx rights and does volunteer work. I joined a volunteer project with the LGBTQ+ Special Teams project and worked alongside LGBTQ+ immigrant prisoners in getting them educational materials as well as advocate for their prisoners’ rights to make sure they are protected and receive housing and medical care. In addition, I took on a legal assistant role in an Immigration Law Firm, Santamaria Law Firm, in San Francisco. Two other legal assistants and I were assigned the position to create a declaration that would help represent clients arriving in the U.S.
With my background in legal advocacy I believe I can bring awareness to mass incarceration and help support minority groups.
